I found my niche in college — audio engineering — and I hope to someday work in the gaming industry. I am currently applying for internships, composing letters of introduction to send with my resume, and have even called some of the local recording and gaming studios. Often, though, audio engineers have no formal training, but instead attain professional experience and skills in audio through extensive on-the-job experience. One of the reasons cited is the trend of companies boosting budgets to increase video conferencing while reducing travel.

Five years of experience in the field are necessary to take the exam, and having the certification can make audio engineers more appealing as job candidates in some circumstances.
